Bartłomiej Owczarek points me to Accenture Netherland’s blogging space for employees. Very nice (and rare) discovery of a blog community that is very informal yet connected to a well-known corporate brand. Bartłomiej also shares his hypotheses on why there aren’t more management consultant bloggers out there:
- because of time constraints
- because they want it to be perfect from the start
- because they live in a world full of policies.
I hadn’t really thought about Bartłomiej’s second bullet point before, but I could see how that might play a role in areas of a consultancy.
Bartłomiej, thanks also for the mention. Best!
Update (11/30/05): Stephan starts a naked conversation and shares his thoughts on blogging under the Accenture umbrella.
Hey,
can I ask your opinion of Online MBAs- do you think this could be a good way to go? I have a wife, and don’t feel like draggin her along whilst I go back to school full time.
I’ve been checking out this site: Online MBA
What’s your opinion?
Hi Steve,
Thanks for spending some of your attention on the Accenture Netherlands BlogPodium.
Since it is only 2 weeks since I set the blogPodium live, I am very interested in the feedback from all over the blogosphere. It was nice to read your enthusiastic response.
In response to the bulletpoints you mention: With the full support of my sponsoring executives at Accenture Netherlands we put very little constraints on our bloggers.
Indeed there is a risk in exposing our blogging learningcurve online like this. On the other hand, if there is one thing we trust at Accenture, it is the ability of our people to learn fast.
Timeconstraints are certainly an issue. However, all the participating bloggers a volunteers and willing to free some of their time. A part of the blogpodium idea is that when interaction on the blogs start to pick up, the blogs can become a logical integral part of our daily work.
David,
Thanks for the comment. Wish I could be of better help, but I don’t know too much about online MBA programs. You might want to try contacting some of the folks that have pursued the online MBA over here … http://www.mbablogs.businessweek.com
Stephan,
Nice idea. Would be interesting to know if Accenture Netherlands had any specific goals by introducing a blogpodium (e.g., improve recruiting, shed light on firm).
Anyway, if I understood you correctly, the blog policy for Accenture Netherlands seems to be very progressive in that Accenture “trusts its employees to do the right thing”.
I also find your comment very intriguing … “A part of the blogpodium idea is that when interaction on the blogs start to pick up, the blogs can become a logical integral part of our daily work.” That comment is also very progressive in that it almost refers to blogging as work. Not so many organizations have yet come to the realization the full utility of blogging.
